Alice Diop Video Essays for “L’immagine e la parola”
This year’s edition of L’immagine e la parola, part of the 78th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, is entitled “Noi e gli altri” and is openly inspired by the work of Alice Diop. In Nous (2021), she makes a memorable statement of intent: “to preserve the existence of ordinary lives that would have disappeared without a trace if I hadn’t filmed them.” At the same time, we live in an age characterized by the hyper-visibility of social media and the massive production of images. How does she situate her work in a contemporary reality where there is so much to see?
